At Porterhouse, we believe that our responsibility goes beyond delivering impactful healthcare communications – it’s also about connecting with the communities we serve. One way we put this into practice is through our employee volunteering programme, which allows our team members to spend time supporting causes close to their hearts.
This month, one of our colleagues, Jane Rodgers, took the opportunity to help on an outing with residents from Oxford Beaumont care home. These trips are more than just a day out — they’re about connection, companionship, and creating moments of joy for people living with dementia, mobility and other health issues. Experiences like these are at the heart of person-centred care.
We know the value of communication in healthcare, but sometimes the most meaningful communication is simply being present: listening, sharing, and reminding people they are a valued part of a wider community.
Jane commented on her volunteering experience:
“I love these outings – I started going as a chance to spend quality time with my dad who is in a wheelchair and has dementia, but I’ve realised that my participation means that more residents can join the trip. I assist people with mobility issues, ensure they’re not cold or too hot, help serve food and chat to them about their lives. It’s rewarding to get to know some lovely people and spread some humour and happiness 😊”
Porterhouse is proud to give our employees the time to be part of initiatives like these and support the organisations that dedicate themselves to providing compassionate, holistic care.
