At Porterhouse Medical Group, as part of our mission to improve lives, we recognise that we have a responsibility to the environment and to do our part in preventing the escalation of the climate crisis. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact across all areas of the business in order to tackle climate change, and we have made sure that the continuous improvement of our environmental performance is an integral part of our business strategies and operating methods.

We are pleased to announce that Porterhouse has recently received a new EcoVadis scorecard that shows some significant improvements compared with the previous one received in 2018. (EcoVadis is a widely used assessment system for monitoring corporate social responsibility, assessing performance in four key domains: the environment, ethics, labour and human rights, and sustainable procurement.)

Joint Managing Director Brian Parsons said, “In 2018 we received a score of 53 and a lack of documentation counted against us. This time we got 59. This may not seem like much of a jump, but it puts us in the top fifth of companies in our sector.”

Porterhouse’s strengths according to the EcoVadis scorecard include:
• ISO 14001 certification
• Employee training on energy conservation
• Employee training to raise awareness regarding the environmental impacts  of company projects
• Measures to reuse and/or recycle waste

Brian added, “Acquiring ISO 14001 – which sets out the criteria for an environmental management system – was a Herculean effort and it’s great to be rewarded with an improved scorecard. However, it’s just one of many things we have put in place since 2018. Of course, we have more to do – especially around sustainable improvement – but it’s good to be moving in the right direction. We would very much like to thank all of those involved at Porterhouse for their hard work.”

As part of efforts to improve our environment performance, we have also implemented an environmental policy. A copy of this policy, which also includes our mission statement and a list of the policy aims, is published on our website: porterhousemedical.com/resources.

We hope the creation of our environmental policy will inspire our staff, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to lessen their impacts on the environment.
