Working with our charity partners: How we can help the Ukrainian refugees

In light of the horrifying situation in Ukraine and in support of one of our charity partners for this year, the Reading Refugee Support Group, the Porterhouse Charity Team have collated a few ways in which we can help the refugees affected by this crisis.

Reading Refugee Support Group

The Reading Refugee Support Group have been helping refugees and asylum seekers in Berkshire for 25 years. They provide a safe space, Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner–accredited advice, practical aid and social activities to refugees, as well as running English classes and assisting refugees with accessing education and employment in the UK.

The charity is ready to help Ukrainian refugees arriving in the UK with practical advice and support. Please click on the link below to donate and support  to their efforts.

The Mayor of Reading’s Appeal

Rachel Eden, the Mayor of Reading, has set up an appeal for financial donations to support the Reading Ukrainian Community Centre. They can no longer store physical donations (e.g. clothes and toiletries), so giving monetary donations via the link below will best allow them to support those affected by this crisis.

Cook for Ukraine

This appeal has been set up by Olia Hercules, a Ukrainian chef living in the UK, to use food as “a force for fundraising”. On the JustGiving page linked below, one suggestion is to host a supper club and request that attendees donate to the appeal. Alternatively, some restaurants are adding a voluntary donation to the bill to the Cook for Ukraine appeal, providing another way to help those in need.

At Porterhouse, we are passionate about promoting awareness and raising funds for important causes, and our enthusiastic team hopes that our efforts will help to provide vital resources to all refugees trying to rebuild their lives.
