Porterhouse bolsters its scientific services team with two more new starters

Porterhouse Medical Group is delighted to welcome two additional new starters this month as we continue to expand our globally acclaimed scientific services team.

First, we are thrilled to welcome Huw Jones, who has joined Porterhouse as a Scientific Director. We are delighted that he is now a permanent member of the team, having previously worked with us on a freelance basis. Huw has a strong scientific background, with a BSc in biochemistry from Cardiff University and a PhD in biological chemistry from Imperial College London. He has had an impressive career so far, working his way up from the role of Medical Writer to Associate Scientific Director and Writing Team Director at Medicus International before embarking on a 7-year freelance career. As such, Huw brings vast project experience across a wide range of therapy areas to his new role, including experience in publication planning and delivery; symposia, standalone meetings and advisory boards; and competitor intelligence. Outside of work, Huw enjoys running and cycling, and initiating his children into the delights of 1980s blockbuster cinema.

Second, we are pleased to welcome Laura Hemmings, who was originally accepted into our Porterhouse Pathfinders internship programme before successfully applying for the role of Associate Medical Writer during lockdown. Laura has a passion for science and recently graduated from the University of Bath with an MSc in molecular biosciences, having previously gained a BSc in biological sciences from the University of Exeter. Interestingly, her degree included a 12-month industrial placement as a Drug Safety Scientist at Janssen, during which she also gained experience co-organising company involvement in charity events, including the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and Live Below the Line, raising over £2,000 for the company’s chosen charities. Laura was an active member of the netball and floorball teams while at the University of Exeter, and played rounders for the University of Bath.

Welcome to the Porterhouse family, Huw and Laura! We look forward to working with you both and watching your careers flourish.
