Last week, the Porterhouse Medical team proudly participated in Ada Lovelace Day (ALD), organised by Pioneer Group and Ignite Futures, at their offices in MediCity, Nottingham.
Ada Lovelace was a 19th-century mathematician who is widely considered the world’s first computer programmer. Her work involved publishing the first algorithm designed for a machine, long before modern computers existed. Her visionary ideas laid the groundwork for the computing revolution.
The day not only celebrates Ada Lovelace’s achievements but also highlights the contributions of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). It aims to inspire more women to pursue careers in these traditionally male-dominated fields by showcasing female role models.
Celebrated around the world, events include lectures, workshops, and networking sessions that promote the visibility of women’s work in STEM and address the gender gap that still persists.
As part of this year’s event, the Porterhouse team ran a session with four groups of year 8 girls to educate them on medical communications and get them excited about STEM careers.
It was a successful event for raising awareness of the roles within healthcare communications and for raising awareness of the industry with the other companies based in the MediCity offices.
Well done to all involved. Hopefully, these activities will have inspired a few medical writers of the future 😊
